Meet the Nose Aesthetics Team

Four physicians staff the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Dr. Tongchun Mao is the responsible physician for this site, performs its nasal surgery and reviews its content; the Center Director sets the standards the practice is held to, and two team physicians cover the skin and the perioperative care that decide how a nose heals across its year.

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Nasal framework surgery · airway assessment · revision rhinoplasty

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

Dr. Mao reads a nose in a fixed order, and the order is the argument. He examines the airway first, because the septum and the valves share their structures with the profile and a plan made without them can leave a patient breathing worse. He then separates the complaint into regions: what sits on the bridge line, what the tip is doing, what the base is doing, and how much of the impression comes from proportion rather than from size. He examines the skin envelope next, because its thickness sets the ceiling on how much of a framework change is likely to show. Only then is a route discussed, and both routes are named, including the ones he does not perform. In his practice the commonest honest answer to a nasal request is that the region the patient is looking at is not the region holding the problem, and he says so before a plan is agreed.

Clinical focus

  • Reading the nose in regions: bridge line, tip, base and airway assessed separately
  • Airway and septal examination before any aesthetic plan is made
  • Tip surgery, and revision of a tip that has already been operated on
  • Skin envelope thickness as the limit on what a framework change can show
  • Declining an operation when the complaint sits in a region it cannot reach

One concern, two routes

Almost every concern a patient brings to a nose can be answered with or without an operation, and the two answers are not versions of each other. An injectable works on the envelope and on proportion; an operation works on the framework. Where the complaint is a cartilage shape under thin skin, the non-surgical route can disguise it and cannot correct it. Saying that plainly at the start is what makes the choice a real one rather than a preference between two sales pitches.

  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser assessment · scar care

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

Dr. He carries the skin side of the nasal assessment on this site: how thick the envelope is over the bridge and the tip, how that skin is likely to behave after an operation, and the treatment of a scar or a skin condition that would otherwise change the plan or its timing.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Medical skin assessment · barrier and pigment conditions

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Dr. Jia assesses the skin around the nose before a nasal plan is made: barrier and pigment conditions, rosacea, and the eczema that can flare around the nose and change both the timing and the route of any treatment.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Start with the region, not the operation

Arrange a nasal assessment. It covers the airway as well as the outline, sets out both the non-surgical and the surgical route for your concern, and says plainly which findings neither route can reach.
